safari is still in the dock but the icon has disappeared. I can click in the blank space and it opens, and the dot below shows if its open or closed, but there's just a visual gap. How do I get the image of the safari icon back?

Right click the Safari, right now a blank one and choose Options and then "Show in Finder ' option.

Finder will show the Safari application.

Right click the Safari, right now a blank one, and choose "Options" and then "Remove" option".

Launch Safari from applications.

Safari icon will appear in Dock.

Right click the icon in the Dock and choose "Keep in Dock" option.

Drag it and move it around where you want to keep it.

Close the Finder window.
