Macbook Pro M1, year 2020, 8GB is very slow

I am not using any specific software, mainly collaboration tools such as Microsoft teams and google chrome.

It is annoyingly slow unlike all the reviews on youtube!

Application opening speed is slower on my iMac compared to MacBook Pro (both M1 8CPU/8GPU) Why is it that when I open an application on my iMac (say Pages), it takes 1-2s more time than my MacBook Pro? Both devices run on M1 with 8 core CPU & GPU, except the iMac 24" and MacBook Pro 13" have 256 GB and 512 GB of storage respectively. Both have plenty of storage left, so I doubt it would have anything to do with the storage. If anyone can help me find the reason for this difference in performance, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

macbook air which has no software on it is always slow been using Macs for 15 years. My 2013 MacBook Air is too slow, sometimes crashes and has to reboot. I dont do video editing, i use it for internet browsing and gmail only. Fed up with this, might have to buy a PC for the first time. done so many restarts, backups, clean installs and i have the fastest fibre optic in the UK - its not the broadband. Its the macbook. Any ideas?
