Installation of 15.3.1 keeps failing

I have been trying for days to upgrade my iPad Air 2 to ios 15.3.1. Initially, I got a message that there was not enough space on iCloud, so I removed a bunch of stuff. The update downloded, but then when I tap on INSTALL NOW, the wheel spins, a box states Verifying, and the screen says INSTALLING. THis continues for several minutes, until eventually I get a message saying an error occurred. Doesn't say what kind of error, just gives me the option to REMOND ME LATER, or TRY AGAIN. So I've tried again & again & again, and let it sit plugged in overnight for Automatic Updates, but continue to get that same error message.

I've seen comments saying to use your computer to install, but I can't find how to do that.

Any help? THanks

Hellogwesq,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities!

If you get this error message, this steps can help.

"Remove and download the update again

If you still can't install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, try downloading the update again:

  1. Go to Settings > General > [Device name] Storage.
  2. Find the update in the list of apps.
  3. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
  4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest update.

If you don’t see the update in the list of apps or if the issue happens again, you need to update your device with your computer using Finder or iTunes."

This is found in If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update. "When you're updating over the air, keep your device connected to a power source." We're sharing this because it's good advice!

If needed, use either of these guides to update using a computer:

We're hoping this helps out and resolves this issue.

Kind regards.

gwesq,

Got it. As it gives you an option to update in Finder, it sounds like you are using a Mac and it makes since as to why iTunes or the Music app did not work.

Here are next steps you can follow.

When getting an error on the computer when updating a device, first follow the steps in If you see an error when you update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod and try to update again. If it continues, review iOS update and restore errors to double check and see if you are getting any of the error numbers or messages here and if so, follow the appropriate steps. Then try to update again. If the first two steps didn't work, you can put your iPad in recovery mode and force the update as seen in If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch

Hope this helps!

Have a good day.

YES - I've done that remove & upload multiple times over the past 4 days.

I cannot figure how to update the ipad with itunes. I see nothing in itunes but a list of songs. Nothing at all that I can find about any software update.

Using Finder, when I conncet my iPad to my computer, in the Finder it sees my iPad, asks if I want to download & install. I press to do that - it downloads for several minutes, then when I click on install I again get that same message: "an error occurred installing iPadOS 15.3.1" BUT IT DOESN'T TELL ME WHAT THE HECK THE ERROR IS!

SO USING FINDER DOESN'T WORK EITHER.

This is so frustrating - been dealing with this for DAYS, since I need the updated OS to use an app that I will need to use.
