Is the remote functional and paired to your ATV4K? From the Apple TV 4K home screen: Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote [battery level icon should display a tiny lightning bolt symbol when charging]. I also saw a banner notification appear briefly on the upper right of the screen indicating the remote got plugged in (battery started charging).
