Emojis not showing up on touch bar, force click not looking up words

These are sort of on again, off again problems. Firstly, most of the time when I use iMessage and press the emoji icon on the Touch Bar, nothing shows up, except for the grey X, which is unresponsive. When I restart iMessage it will work again for a bit, but even just later in the day it will stop working.

Second, I often use force click to look up words on Safari, and like the emoji problem, I can temporarily solve it by restarting Safari, but in a few days' time, it goes back to not working.

Just a disclaimer: I did a search through the forum and couldn't find anything helpful, but if there is something, let me know.

This is a 2020 13" M1 MacBook Pro on Monterey btw.

Yours is not the first report I have seen here...

I know of no straight forward way to regain the function.

On the M1 you can try SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

then reboot as normal and compare your results
