mac book air 2012 battery

Is it worth replacing either with apple or with 3rd party? Often shows 0% even though charged.

Have Apple replace it, if they still can: Mac Repair - Official Apple Support


If Apple will no longer service that Mac, see if you can find an Apple Authorized Service Provider to do it.

I don't believe Apple will replace the battery on the 2012 since it is Obsolete, but I agree with @John Galt that an Apple battery is preferred if at all possible. If you are going with a third party battery, then your best option will likely be OWC (it is relatively easy to replace the battery on the MBAir as long as you are careful not to damage the connector on the Logic Board and you don't accidentally puncture the battery. You would need to store the battery in protective material or container so it is not accidentally damaged which could result in a fire. You will also need to give the battery to a recycling center for proper disposal.

FYI, it is extremely hard to find good quality third party Lithium-ion batteries so be careful. At least OWC is a reputable company with years of supporting Macs so you are more likely to get a good battery from them, but even OWC batteries may have issues (like I said it is extremely hard to get a good third party Lithium-ion battery).
