That is by design so you can't have the percentage there.

That is probably design, can confirm if you swipe down on the home screen to access control center, and if you see the battery percentage there then that is how it is.

There is no changing that.

Only the iPod 7 (iOS 14+) shows the percentage on the top. There are a lot of free 3rd party apps that will show battery percentage (but not on the home screen)
