Iphone X with automated voice recognition (IVR) phone trees

I am having issues calling from my iPhone X to many different companies that have automated voice recognition. After listening to the introductory material and the IVR is ready to listen to my response... it's like it hears garbage even though I haven't even started to talk yet. Of course this causes the phone tree to go berserk. In googling, I see several people have problems with the dial pad working correctly. This is NOT what I'm talking about. I don't even get a chance to use the dial pad. The system keeps thinking it is hearing me say something and attempting to respond. If I use my land line or my wife's iPhone, I have no problems.

Removing the phone protector (leaving the screen protector on) solved the problem! That's the good news... guess I now have to get a different phone protector. I was using an Otter box Defender.

Hi tty3,

Have you checked the issue when connected to a Bluetooth headset or headphones? If it works as expected, you can test with any protective case or screen protector temporarily off as well.

If the issue doesn't occur with a headset or Bluetooth, clean your iPhone microphone. The article here has helpful information on what to use. Cleaning your iPhone

If possible test when away from places with a lot of Wi-Fi activity, poorly shielded cables, microwave ovens, and wireless speakers. If the issue remains, reach out to Apple Support directly as recommended by Drew_7.

Best!

That was a good thought. I followed all of the different directions on your link and my microphone is working perfectly.

when this happens, it seems like the IVR is getting some kind of response that I do not hear. Might it be that my iPhone is sending key presses that I am not touching to send?? I hear no tones. I have no issues talking to real people, just certain automated systems.
