photobooth is not recording videos. After i end the video, i just see a gray screen with a slash across the play button. Is this because i am using an external microphone and interface for audio?

Can Quicktime Player record videos?
Open Quicktime Player, and do File->New Movie Recording
This will help us determine if it just a problem with Photo Booth or a more general issue with video.

The photo booth app is not for video it is an app that will come preinstalled on an IPad and is for photos
The standard video and photo app is simply called ‘camera’ it look like this:

I have the same problem on my M1 MacBook Air. This is what I get after I try to take a video. Anyone else?
Since this was posted in the Monterey forum, I don't think that the OP was talking about an iPad.
Please give more details. Does it work if you record using the built-in camera and mic?
Does the external mic work with other applications like Quicktime Player?
