What Does "Remote Automation" Mean in Safari Advanced Settings?

This question has been asked before but I can't find a meaningful answer on this support site. Turning on Remote Automation on also forces the "Web Inspector" setting to be turned on (if it isn't already). I don't understand what Web Inspector is for either but it seems that it may be a function useful to developers(?)
