Unable to ping an address

I have a specific problem that I suspect requires a more general solution. I connect to specialist software on a licence server and whilst this poses zero issues from an Intel MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur (11.6.4), I am unable to connect via an M! Mac Book Air running macOS Monterey (12.2.1). I suspect that a security setting may be preventing the software connecting on the M1 but have no idea where to look. If I ping the address using Terminal I get:

PING [address]: 56 data bytes

Request timeout for icmp_seq 0

Request timeout for icmp_seq 1

Request timeout for icmp_seq 2

Request timeout for icmp_seq 3

Request timeout for icmp_seq 4

Any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

You do not give the address...(?)

Network Utilities.app has been deprecated, you can however use the Terminal.app.

When you say "I connect", how are you trying to connect? Pinging means nothing since the other end may be set to not respond to pings. What happens when you try to connect? Error messages? Maybe your Mac is not "registered" with the "license server". Maybe the server contains a "white list" of allowed connections. Maybe you are running third party apps that are blocking certain protocols. Maybe you have a proxy set up that is blocking traffic. Maybe you set up a VPN, Maybe ...

Provide system and context details.

Apologies, my first post was rather cryptic and as you might have guessed, I am no expert ;-) When the software starts up, it connects to the licence server - I didn't;t specify this in the original post as it is open access at this time. On Big Sur, there is no issue - everything works like a dream. On Monterey (M1), it is as if the software cannot see the licence server. I understand now that pinging might not be the best way to discover what the issue might be, but might I be correct to assume that there is a security option in Monterey which might be blocking the software in some way?

I've emailed Avid for help, but a week later, have received no response :-(
