External USB will not connect

I have been using an external USB adapter with my iPad to transfer photos.. It has worked perfectly in the past. I recently updated my devices and now it has stopped working with iOS 15. I bought a new adapter thinking the adapter went bad. Not only did it not work, but it corrupted some of the pictures on my SD card. I see here that other people have the same problem. Has anyone else gotten their external USB device to work with iOS 15? I am now on 15.3 and am using a lightening to USB adaptor. The problem is on iPad and iPhone. I cannot connect anymore with photos or Files. Apple, when will you fix this?
