Moving Time Machine external drive to new Mac

Upgrading from a Mac Mini to Mac Studio and want to move my external Time Machine SSD drive to the new system. I won't need the old TM backups as I will be trading in the Mini, what's the best way to do this? Currently 2 partitions on the TM drive, one for TM and another ExFAT partition for old stuff. Would like to save the ExFAT partition if possible. Thanks!

I would suggest that the TM drive be dedicated for backups formatted to APFS. I would not put anything else on the drive. TM has become very sensitive lately so the less you have that is not TM related the better. If you want tisane the files on the ExFat partition I would save as is or move to another drive if needed.
