I have a lot of items in my Download Folder located on the taskbar next to Trash. If I remove them from this folder, does it remove them from FINDER? I want to keep them in FINDER, but am not wanting every download to appear in the Download Folder on my taskbar.
The Downloads icon on the dock, is the quick access to the actual Downloads folder in Finder. If you delete anything from the folder in finder it is also removed from the icon on the dock. If you delete anything from the icon on the dock, then its also removed from the folder in Finder.
Basically they are one and the same. You can't have a downloads icon that does not show the contents of the downloads folder it is connected to.

The Downloads folder is a folder in Finder similar to any other folder in Finder. If you have files in that folder that you want to keep, simply move them to another folder.
I normally either move them to Trash or move them to another folder shortly after I download them, while I still remember what they are.
