Why does Etrecheck say iMac is on a beta version?

27" 2020 iMac. Ran Etrecheck as it's slow and beachballing. But as I start Etrecheck it says it's running on a beta version - what is that, is it OK?, if not how do I get rid of it, and how did I end up with it in the first place?

Image below if you can see it.

Thanks.

iMac 27″, macOS 12.2

Beta versions are pre-release versions of software.

Go to Apple Menu->About This Mac and see what it says you are running?

What do you see if you go to System Preferences->Software Update?

How you got it: you or someone with access to the computer would have needed to enroll the computer into Apple’s Beta program to get a Beta version of macOS. It cannot happen by mistake as it involves several steps including visiting Apple’s Beta website to download a Beta Profile.

Betas are not finalized software, so they can have issues, some device breaking, so yes, it can be bad to be running Betas if you are not ready to deal with any issues that may arise.

However, if you did not actually go through the process of installing a Beta version, then its most likely Etrecheck is just mis-identifying the macOS version you are running. As mentioned, if its an older version of Etrecheck, it may not know about newer versions of macOS and as such would label them as a Beta version.

If there is nothing stating you are running a beta in About This Mac or Software Update, then its likely just an Etrecheck glitch.
