lost name and password for mac os x

I just purchased an old MacBook Air that has Mac OS X installed. When it opens it's asking me for a "name" and a "password" but I don't have those from the previous owner. How do I get past this front end so that I can use it?

I cannot get past the password screen, because I do not know the previous owner's password, obviously. I recently ordered the computer through my university's online bookstore and had it delivered to my home.
