I need to free up space on my starting disc. How do I do this? Most of the space on my hard drive seems to be used by the computer, not be apps, mail, documents, downloads, etc.

Back Up, then Restore your Mac:
Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac, and then to restore your Mac from the backup you've just created. Temporary files would be deleted.
