iPhone Xs Max to iPhone 13 Pro Max vs Storage

My mom got the new phone. I did the cloud backup and restore option to the new phone. They both claim to have the same amount of photos, all the settings for photos are the same, and the photos appear to visually be there.

The new phone claims 3.49gb and old is 6.02gb? Seems backwards. Googling I see people complaining about the opposite. I’m just trying to figure out why this would be before deleting everything off the old phone.

Are you using iCloud for Photos on your new iPhone? Open Settings ➡️ Apple ID (Your Name at Top) ➡️ iCloud ➡️ Photos: If this setting is set to ON, then you are using iCloud for Photos. When this setting is set to ON then your full resolution photos are store on iCloud and only its low resolution representative photos are stored on your iPhone to save storage space. This may be the difference that you are seeing on your new iPhone from your old iPhone when referring to Photos.

That is a good question. In most cases when there is enough space available on the iPhone and iCloud for Photos is selected along with Optimize Storage on the iPhone, then you may see this discrepancy based on how much compression is used on the photos that are saved on the iPhone. In some cases, no compression is used if enough space is still left on the iPhone.

Yes but that same setting is on for both the new and the previous iphone. So why would the new one only be half the size photo library for the same number of pictures?
