Updating iPhone X to 15.3.1 getting this error: The iPhone “iPhone” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1170).

As per the subject, tried to update my iPhone X to 15.3.1 from 15.2.1 and got this error

The iPhone “iPhone” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1170).

Done from searches and cannot find any references to this code.

Also have an issue where the iPhone won't back up to my Mac with error:-

Could not back up the iPhone “iPhone” because the iPhone disconnected.

Has anyone got any idea?

I’ve had success after deleting the last backup.

The iPhone did a full backup and seems to back up ok subsequently.

Its also managed to update to 15.3.1.

Did you try cleaning the Lightning port on your iPhone? Use a flashlight and toothpick.

Have you tried an Over-the-Air (OTA) update while connected to WiFi?

Are you attempting to update using your computer and a cable? If yes, you could have a bad cable or a port issue on the phone or the computer.

How fast is your internet speed? If you have an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider near you I would suggest making an appointment and having them examine your iPhone.

And you are using this same connection with your computer? Is your computer up-to-date on the macOS version?

If nothing is close to you then you will have to send it in for service. Click on the Get Support link at the top right of this page.

The success was short lived.

When I back up get error:-

Could not back up the iPhone “iPhone” because the iPhone disconnected.

Suggests to me there is some sort of bug when making a backup, which is concerning the way the update of the backup is made.

Getting rather fed up of these problems, the quality of Apple products does seem to be reducing.

Tried a brand new genuine Apple cable this afternoon. No difference.

Tried both USB ports on my MacBook as well.

Dont know what to try now.

Yes the lightning port on the iPhone is clean.

The OTA update slowly downloads and then fails during the update.

12mb ADSL2 connection.

There isn’t an Apple service provider or store near me.

My MacBook (mid 2012) has 10.15.7 installed, which is the latest available.

Looking at the price here in the UK for Apple to service an iPhone X (£526.44) it’s not economically viable.
