Hi _gayLord5,

Technically you can use the device as is, there's nothing that would prevent your current setup. If you ever wanted to change the Apple ID, you could simply sign out of iCloud and sign into the same Apple ID as iMessage. Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac can show you how to do that.
