Unable to use Face ID to unlock Notes

Unable to use Face ID to unlock Notes. I forgot the password and tried multiple approaches to reset the password via iCloud and Face ID settings. I never had a problem with notes not using Face ID until today. Face ID is on for the notes app. My IPad didn’t ask for Face ID either. Using the updated software 15.3.1 on iPad and iPhone

Face ID no longer working on Notes I have some locked Notes on my phone and used Face ID to unlock them as I wouldn’t remember the password, this has worked fine for ages but now suddenly it requires a password (which I can’t recall!) and isn’t giving me the option of Face ID (which is working on everything else!). Starting over with a new password on new notes is no good, I need access to my old notes for work stuff! What can I do? Seeing questions from 2018 with the same problem and seemingly no solution?

Unless you can remember the password your Notes are not recoverable.
