I want to use the shapes generator but it looks like it is Missing Generator. I see the shapes preview come up when I search for it but once I bring it down to add to my project it gives me the missing generator image. How do I download the missing generator file to my computer from the web and how do I relink it?
Try reinstalling the application.
In addition to what Tom said: if you have Chrome and its mean keystone daemons, that could be why you are facing this in the first place. See https://chromeisbad.com for why this is an issue and how to uninstall, and then remove and reinstall FCP.
A (not-so-)wild guess: you may be missing simple stuff like the Cross Dissolve transition as well. Look under Dissolves in the Transitions browser at the right of the timeline.
