There is an icon in my menu bar that cannot be removed, and offers three options when clicked on: "Show time connected," "Show status when connecting," and "Open Network Preferences." The first 2 options do nothing, and the last just open the network preferences. Does anyone know what this icon is? Here's what it looks like:

This is the VPN icon.
Go to System Preferences->Network, select the network service that is using VPN, and uncheck "Show VPN status in menu bar"
