I cannot set up my finger ID on new iPad

I have a new iPad and I am trying to set up fingerprint ID. When I try to set it up in settings. And click add a fingerprint the box comes up but when I press the home button there is nothing reading my fingerprint

If you already tried (to no avail) all the steps provided in these two support articles:--> Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad - Apple Support, and/or:--> If Touch ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support, contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Get Support or make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
