Songs in the Music app will suddenly sound muffled in the middle of playing. Clicking progress bar resets sounds.
Hello, I've had a weird issue where songs will randomly start sounding muffled as the song plays on the Music app on my Mac mini M1. Everything would sound fine and, at a random spot in a song (any song), the sound becomes slightly muffled. While it's obvious when it happens, it's also not as if the speakers sounded like they were playing from 3 rooms away. Imagine hearing clear sound and all of a sudden, it sounds as if someone covered the speakers with a blanket.
This happens suddenly, not gradually.
Hitting the play/pause button doesn't fix it, however clicking the progress bar in the music app does restore the sound.
It seems like it happens once per playing session, if that makes sense. I'm not sure if it happens every time I restart the app, or the computer, or I log in or out. I'll have to test that, but it seems to just happen once while I sit a the computer. It works fine until I leave the computer and come back some time later.
I know it happens while streaming music but I am unsure if it happens with downloaded songs.
It seemed to happen regardless of the following settings:
- Dolby Atmos on/off/Automatic
- Crossfade on/off
- Sound Enhancer on/off
- Sound Check on/off
- Lossless audio on/off (currently set to Hi-Res Lossless up to 192 kHz)
I haven't noticed this happening while playing content on other platforms (video editing, streaming from a browser, etc).
I've had this happen using the 3.5mm jack output connected to an amplifier driving passive speakers. I've tried 2 different amplifiers with the same results. Currently I am using a Schiit Audio USB DAC connected to active Edifier speakers, and it still happens which makes me feel like it has something to do with the Music app itself.
Both the Mac and the Music app are up to date (at the time of this posting, macOS Montery 12.2.1 and Music 12.2.2.40).
I'm at a loss.
