Why is Face id with mask not supported in IPhone 11

The release notes mention that the Face ID while wearing a mask option is supported on the iPhone 12 and newer. Unknown the reason, that is a question to ask Apple, since I do not see an explanation in the release notes.

It said in the update that certain features were not available on all devices. You might want to google and see if your phone and iOS version is compatible with the Mask ID
