If you cannot power-on and unlock your iPad, it’s too late to attempt a backup. The iPad uses an encrypted filesystem; until unlocked with your Passcode, your locally stored data remains encrypted and unreadable.


The only copy of the encryption key is stored in the iPad Secure Enclave (the iPad Security chip). Your Passcode unlocks the Secure Enclave - releasing the encryption keys to the OS. If you can’t unlock the Secure Enclave, all local data remains beyond reach.
