Does apple allow 2-3 phones traded in for a new one?

I recently have an XR, a 12 mini, and a 12 I wanted to trade in so I can get a new 13...

Some people said they don't do that anymore, but some told me I can just trade in for the credit or an Apple Gift Card and just use that credit from the card to purchase the new one. Is that correct?

I'm a broke college student, so I'm just trying to make the best out of things I got right now.
