My dad has an iPhone 6 that can't be updated to use some of the apps he wants to use. I have an iPhone 8-Plus I'm getting ready to upgrade from. I'm thinking of giving that to dad instead of buying a new phone for him.
Is it worth doing that or is the iPhone8 about to reach the end of its updateable life? I've considered getting him the new iPhone SE instead of the hand-me-down iPhone8

• If you have an iPhone 5S or 6/6plus, the highest you can update to is 12.5.5
• If you have an iPhone 6S through 13, you can update to 15.4

We do not know how long Apple will continue to support an iPhone 8 with updates, but an iPhone 6s still got the newest update so I would guess that your phone will be supported for a few more years.
