edit y axis range in pages

For my Y-axis, there is no data below 40%. How can I edit the y-axis values?

Hi Andy,

Our first family typewriter was also a second-hand manual, bought at an auction sale.

Here's an example using your description and some made up data.

The two charts are x-y scatter charts, with no lines joining the data points.

I started with a single chart, but the difference in range of the wpm values (all near 100) and the accuracy numbers (0-1=0% to 100%) meant that any change in the minimum value setting for the chart made the accuracy data points disappear.

Numbers did have the ability of make a category chart with two Y axes using different value ranges, but I didn't notice that option in the current version (which may be due to an insufficient thoroughness in the search).

Here are the charts. The accuracy is selected, and ther Inspector panel applies to that chart.

The key changes from default values are the Max: and Min:

To change, select the Axis (Value( Y) ) then click in the Max box and enter the max value to be shown in the chart. (My 'percentage' were entered as decimal equivalents - 0 to 1.00)

Repeat for the Min value you want to show. (Mine was 80%)

For the table on the left, the Y values are in column B of the table. For this chart, I set the Min: to 40 and the Max: to 90. Having done that, I should also have set the Major Steps value to 5 to make the labels become multiples of 10.

Barry

Hi Andy,

Ask yourself how "editing the y axis values" would make the resulting chart/graph better.

Does it make the visual image a better fit to and a better, more accurate, representation of the data? Or would the editing distort the data?

Take a look at these two examples:

How is the initial information/impression of A compared to B?

If they are showing the changes in investments made by two people—A and B, whose was—at a glance— the more successful in terms of gain?

An answer to your "How can I…question will follow, but I am curious to know your response to the questions above.

Barry

Hi Barry—I’m just tracking the progress of my typing accuracy and speed. The trend I want to observe is the improvement from my baseline abilities of 45wpm with 92% accuracy. (I learned on a second-hand manual typewriter, which required a heavy hand a to this day I have trouble using the light touch that modern keyboards require.) Actual values aren’t so relevant. I could just as well assign a 0-10 scale to my skills, with zeroes being my 45/92 baseline, or I could track the percentage increase from baseline. But it’s such a trivial matter, I don’t want to get sidetracked (which I can easily do with this type of problem!)
