How do I access my original iCloud from my old phone so I can return it without losing my important data and information that is not being shown on my current phone

Has anyone had trouble with her iCloud and losing their pictures or emails? Do emails have an expiration date on how long you can save them or is it from the original date upon subscription of your email? And how will you know if somebody has breached your iCloud?
