For some time now, only in Safari on my fully updated mac mini, when editing a line in the search box I can type one letter and then the cursor jumps to the end and types the rest of the desired word. I need to fix this glitch and I think it's related to Safari. It only happens in Safari. Booting into Safe mode makes no difference.
Any ideas?

You mentioned that safe mode hasn't made a difference with the keyboard/ typing issue; have you tried a NVRAM reset? This process will reset some of your settings that could be causing this issue to occur.
Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac
If the issue persists after the NVRAM reset, would you please confirm the exact macOS version you have installed? You can locate this information by clicking the Apple Menu () in the top left corner and selecting About this Mac.

Apparently this is called "cursor jumping" and it appears to be an issue some have. I will have to research it.
