What happens when you try?
You should be able to use the cell number of your iPhone for iMessage on the iPad Pro, but only if the iPhone and iPad are signed into the same Apple ID.
If you also need to receive SMS messages on the iPad, the iPhone must be set to forward SMS messages to the iPad.
On the iPhone, visit Settings > Messages > text Message Forwarding
