Purchasing and iCloud locked Mac, logic board replacement cheaper?

Ok, so maybe I’m dumb, or it’s just too impractical, but for iCloud lock, my understanding is that it is a chip on the logic board that has the information. If I’m wrong correct me. But either way, if you replaced the logic board of any device with (macbook, iPhone, ect.) would you be able to bypass the iCloud lock entirely? I get that a logic board replacement is expensive and could be overly complicated to replace and pay for, when you could just by a brand new device. But I’m a college student who is wanting to get an m1 macbook for school work. And the price of a new one or even a used one is just too much. I’d go ahead and get an iCloud locked one on eBay or something but I wanted to see if this would even work. If not I imagine it’s just more complicated than replacing the logic board, but if not could I save some cash?

tldr. Can I save money by buying an iCloud locked MacBook and replacing its logic board?

Yes you can remove the logic board from an iCloud locked Macbook and replace it with a logic board from an unlocked Macbook. You will find that it's not any cheaper than just buying an unlocked machine in the first place. Especially if you factor the labour in to acually do the replacement, unless you are confident doing it yourself using say an ifixit guide. Of course you could sell the locked board on eBay to recoup some money but it will still be an expensive exercise IMO. Also the iCloud lock in 2018 and later Macbook Pro and Air's isn't just in a replaceable chip on the board. The board ties back to Apples servers and removing that lock is difficult but not impossible on pre M1 machines.
