unable to set up health data

My son has a new apple watch SE. that I have set up as a family managed watch on my iphone. I am trying to request his health data but every time I try through my phone, he accepts it on his watch and I get "Unable to set up Health Sharing you can try again later". I have updated both phone and watch to the latest iOS and we are each in each others contacts.

Anyone have any ideas? I have already unpaired the watch and tried to pair it again and during the set up I requested the health data and got the same error message.

Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out, angel193.

It sounds like you're trying to share health information but running into difficulty. We can help.

From our understanding, you're already following the steps to complete the process found in See activity and health reports for family members, is that correct? You mentioned that you unpaired and paired the Apple Watch, when completing that step did you try setting it up as new, or did you restore from a backup? This can help us to determine if there may be an issue with the data on the Apple Watch contributing to this behavior.

Take care.

Welcome back angel193,

Thanks for confirming the steps and providing information on the restore.

For confirmation, are you able to see that Health data is enabled and recording information on the Apple Watch? For assistance with what features are available, take a look at the information below. You can also check out the following resource for additional information: Set up Apple Watch for a family member

Availability of features and apps

Health and fitness features:

• High and low heart rate notifications are available for users 13 and older.
• Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is available for users 18 and older.
• Walking steadiness and fall detection are available for users 18 and older.
• Users under the age of 13 can use move minutes, rather than active calories, for their Move goal in the Activity app.

If you see that data is being recorded but still unable to share, try setting up the Apple Watch as new without restoring the previous backup to test if you can share data. If you'd rather not try this first, Contact Apple Support to look into this with you in more detail.

Have a great day!

I restored from a backup since my son has had the watch for months I didn't want to delete anything. And yes I have followed the steps in the link, each time I request his data and then say to allow sharing on the watch my phone just comes back with the error message.

On the watch, I cannot change the heath sharing setting in his watch, it says I have to do it on the iphone, but I can see it recording heart rate, steps, activity, etc.

If I set it up as new will that remove everything that is currently on it? So will need to add all apps/pics/watch faces again?

That’s a great question.

When you unpair the watch, a backup will be created. After setting it up as new and testing, you can then unpair again and put the backup on it.

If it doesn’t work as new or if the problem comes back after putting the backup on, the next step will be to reach out to Apple Support here: Apple Support

Kindest regards.
