How to delete Read-only Contact on iPhone

I found the easiest way to solve this is to rename the contact that you're having a problem with. Then you can remove it.

I renamed the contact to something else, after following the steps above. I was able to delete the contact. Try that.

Clear any discussion you have on wassap ( or other apps like this ) with that particular contact, the you can remove it .

I’ll tell you how I delete it.

so I go on any other app that has his/her number and delete them from there. Idk if you have WhatsApp or not but I delete their number from WhatsApp and then I go in contact and remove their digit from under their name and then it gets saved as a vacant contact. Then I ask Siri not to suggest this contact and done!

Under the section where mobile number is displayed in the contact. There is a section social profile, you have to open it and select don’t suggest. I guess that will help.

Hi there had the same issue, go to settings , contacts, siri & search & under suggestions untick “SHOW CONTACT SUGGESTIONS”

If you have an open chat with this contact in the whatsApp

try to delete it from the whatsApp

go to the contact’s profile

I am also having the same problem. If I add a co tact and then try to immediately delete it I get the same error. I turned off contacts for all of my email accounts, so only contact are on in my iCloud account. I have also turned off contacts in iCloud and deleted all contact from iPhone (contacts are then completely empty). After turning back on and letting phone contact populate I still have the contact I want to delete and receive the same error. I have never had this problem prior to iOS 15. Is there a way to delete this contact?

Export all your iCloud contacts to vcf folder (or similarly if you are on a different provider to csv file)

Having an offline backup is essential anyway.

Then clear out the lot and re-import from the folder (or file.)

If you turned off all the accounts (check!) and you still have contacts then they are also on the iphone's memory. You will have to delete them once you have checked that they are also on the email accounts

It's a manual process.

Sign into each email accounts on a computer browser and print off the contacts.

The purpose of un-syncing snd removing the sync'd contacts is to see if any un-sync'd contacts remain on the phone.

By definition they could be the duplicates.

Try renaming the one duplicate as suggested later.

Me neither. I have given more than one suggestion above. You should be able to do the export, edit, and import process.

Do you have Screen Time turned on on the phone?
