How to delete Read-only Contact on iPhone

Just happened to me and it solved it doing what you said! Top man!

Didn’t work for me still shows the same msg

when I turn back on contacts on iCloud the contacts don’t come back

how can I solve this?

I’m just living with it because I’m afraid what happened to you will happen to me!

I hear you. Apple is supposed to be so user friendly! I’ll check my iPad. I don’t believe I have contacts there but will see and maybe try what you did.

I can’t delete a contact because it is supposedly in Read-Only mode. What do I change in Settings? I have iPhone 13 with automatic software updates

No, it disconnects the phone contacts app from the email account you had them connected to.

But read all six pages, more options were presented by other users.

I tried this, and it deleted all my contacts meanwhile I just wanted to delete a single contact, so what can I do to recover back all my contacts?

So, I found a solution.

There’s several hundred “Me toos,” and more than this one thread containing complaints recently. Clearly this IS a new bug, and I concur it was introduced in 15

This is how I fixed it after observing the behavior:

1. open the affected contact, remove ALL fields so there’s no data left (no phone, no name, no email, etc. - clear EVERY field)
2. you will not be able to hit “Done,” until there’s at least some info somewhere, so I put three blank spaces in the field for “Notes” and then was able to hit “Done.”
3. close out Contacts, and reopen it - if you did like me, you’ll have a ton of “No names” at the bottom of your contacts
4. you should now be able to successfully remove these Contacts that you could not before
