Apple Watch 7 slow charging with Belkin BoostCharge PRO after 8.5

Hi,

After updating the Apple Watch 7 to WhatchOS 8.5 it stopped fast charging with Belkin BoostCharge PRO. It used to charge very fast and now is very very very slow (about 5% in one hour). Any idea of how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

Solving the issue is up to Apple and Belkin. However as a work around until a fix to WatchOS is available try the following;

Place watch on Belkin Charger, wait a few seconds till it switches to charge mode (Green Watch Face)

Remove it from charger , wait a second till it flips to normal watch mode then replace on charger.

I've been doing this for awhile (weeks) and it works consistently to allow fast charging on a Series 7 watch , and Belkin Fast (Watch) Chargers. Belkin has also mentioned this recently on their support Twitter.

This is what I received from Belkin. Still testing if the issue is resolved.

Thank you for contacting Belkin.

Based on the issue you talked about earlier, I can provide you some step by step troubleshooting on slowly charging your smart watch issue. Here’s the steps:

Re-seat the watch

  1. Place the watch on the charger and wait for it to recognize charging.
  2. Once it recognizes and shows the charging logo, remove the watch from the charger and place it back down.
  3. wait a couple of moments and see if it if starting to fast charge. You will notice the charge percentage going up faster.

Turn off optimized charging on the watch

  1. unlock the watch and press the crown in
  2. Open settings
  3. scroll down and select battery
  4. turn off optimized charging and try placing watch on charger again.
  5. wait a couple of moments and see if it if starting to fast charge. You will notice the charge percentage going up faster.

Perform a hard reboot of the watch

Please close all running apps on the watch and try a hard reboot.

  1. Hold down the crown and the side button for 10 seconds.
  2. Release crown and button after you see the apple logo.

Apple Watch Series 7 8.5.1

The only thing that works for me is reseating the watch (taking it off the charger.. wait a few seconds... put it back on)

since this product is 150 dollars, I shouldn't have to do that... so, I found that if you turn off nightstand mode, it fast charges every single time. no reseats needed.

I understand you shouldnt have to turn off any features for something to work, but it is a workaround that doesn't require reseating the watch.

hopefully apple stops breaking things with each update, that would be fantastic.

Hi Miguelarco,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that since you've updated the watchOS, your Apple Watch charges slower than it used to.

To help isolate this behavior further, we'd recommend that you test charging your Apple Watch using an alternate charger to determine if you see the same results. You can also check out the troubleshooting steps outlined here: If your Apple Watch won't charge or it won't turn on

Get help
If you use a third-party charging stand, use the charging cable that shipped in the box with your Apple Watch.
If your Apple Watch won't charge or you see a message on your watch that charging with this accessory isn't supported:
1. Make sure that you plug the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable all the way into the USB Power Adapter, then make sure that you plug the adapter all the way into a power outlet.
2. Make sure that you're using the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable that came with your Apple Watch.
3. Completely remove any plastic wrap from both sides of the charger.
Apple Watch charging cable

4. Make sure that the back of your Apple Watch and the magnetic charger are clean.
5. Position the back of your Apple Watch on the charger. The charger's magnets align your Apple Watch, and you should see a green lightning bolt green lightning bolt on the watch face.
6. If your Apple Watch still won't charge, force it to restart. Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, or until you see the Apple logo.
7. Try a different Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable, and a different USB Power Adapter. If your Apple Watch is out of power, you might need to wait a few minutes for the green lightning bolt green lightning bolt to appear after you start charging your device.

Been having this issue with the Belkin, Watch Series 7 since 8.5

  • Belkin replaced the unit this did NOT help
  • Rebooting the Watch does NOT help consistently
  • Turning off Optimized Charging does NOT help consistently
  • Placing watch on charger then removing it and pacing it back on charger DOES help consistently

So until Belkin and Apple sort this out....

I’ve had 3 consecutive successful fast charging attempts after turning “Nightstand Mode” off... So far so good! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤞🏻

Maybe this is a bug related to Nightstand Mode?!?

I noticed it kind of gets “stuck” in Nightstand Mode so that’s what made me think to try turning it off… when my watch is on the charger but not charging, picking it up does not release Nightstand Mode all the time - the nightstand display will rotate, but the watch face doesn't return - it can take a few minutes for it to return.

Belkin is aware that the Apple update broke it. They are working on it with Apple. Since there is no guarantee this will be fixed. I returned and received a complete refund from Apple. This was way beyond the policy but Apple has accepted responsibility and made it happen. I recommend that those who purchased the charger from Apple do the same. Applr will sit on on this otherwise.

Not much help, but I had a slow charge issue on the Watch 7 cellular using OS 8.5 with the original fast charger that came with it from factory. It was ok for a week or so after the update, then I noticed it was taking ages to charge.

A reboot sorted it, though I also was having battery drain issues which I’m unsure of also being resolved by the reboot. It seems OK so far though was under 40% this morning so will keep monitoring it.

Post 8.5 I was again ending up around 40-45% by wake-up on my alarm every day, but it slowly dropped to being 20-25% at that time with no difference in usage scenarios for me.

40-45% each morning was what I got with the Watch from new, so there does seem to be an ongoing charging and drain issue with almost all OS updates since the one it had at launch.

I tried the reseating advice that Belkin put out (mentioned yesterday on this thread) and it worked, not only then but even this morning (without having to reseat).

I didn't update past 8.5.1 not make any other changes other than seeing the charger down flat (as opposed to standing up for nightstand mode). It's working as advertised this morning, finally.
