Apple Watch 7 slow charging with Belkin BoostCharge PRO after 8.5

Hi,

After updating the Apple Watch 7 to WhatchOS 8.5 it stopped fast charging with Belkin BoostCharge PRO. It used to charge very fast and now is very very very slow (about 5% in one hour). Any idea of how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

I can also confirm, the boost pro stopped charging my Series 7 altogether after updating to watchOS 8.5. It’ll charge normally on Apple chargers, but the Belkin fast charger recently released no longer works. Considering the absolute desolate landscape that third party fast charging for Series 7 is currently, how quickly Apple releases a fix for this is critical for Belkin and others to keep customer trust.

This has been happening with my S7 with the Belkin Boost Charge Pro as well. I have it on the USB-C puck now and it is fast-charging like normal. I’ve tried hard resetting and hasn’t worked, though I might try some of the other suggestions people listed in this thread.

The sad part here is that Belkin’s Charge Pro has the “Made for iPhone” and “Made for Apple Watch” seals so it has been officially licensed by Apple themselves so WatchOS 8.5 definitely broke something with the way the software recognizes the charger.

Also having the same issue. I swapped the Belkin at apple a few days ago and it worked properly for about 10 min then went to slow charge again. I noticed it also creates an excess amount of heat when placed on the belkin. 100% an issue since the software update. Frustrating as the belkin was meant to replace the abundance of charge cords. Hopefully apple fixes this soon.

No! This is NOT isolated to Belkin chargers! I have multiple third party Apple Watch chargers that have always charges my Apple Watch series 5 without issue. Since 8.5 they all still charge my watch, HOWEVER, what now happens is that while charging, the Watch intermittently emits a ping sound, the face wakes up, then goes dark. This lasts for as long as the Watch is on the charger. When I put the Watch on my Belkin 3 in 1charger, purchased in the Apple store, as well as into an Apple wall plug, the issue goes away. I’ve ran this test multiple time with the same results. I have literally, hundreds of dollars invested in various third party 3 in 1chargers and this is unacceptable! You can’t just brick a charger with an update and say, “Just use an Apple charger”! That’s total BS!

I‘ve been in contact with Belkin support over a couple days. The only workaround suggested was to hard reset the watch. Which didn’t help either.

I was told today that Belkin  upper management is currently investigating for the root cause of the problem and support is still waiting for their feedback.

and that replacing the unit will not help at this time since the issue occurred after the iOS update.

Not much help, but I had a slow charge issue on the Watch 7 cellular using OS 8.5 with the original fast charger that came with it from factory. It was ok for a week or so after the update, then I noticed it was taking ages to charge.

A reboot sorted it, though I also was having battery drain issues which I’m unsure of also being resolved by the reboot. It seems OK so far though was under 40% this morning so will keep monitoring it.

Post 8.5 I was again ending up around 40-45% by wake-up on my alarm every day, but it slowly dropped to being 20-25% at that time with no difference in usage scenarios for me.

40-45% each morning was what I got with the Watch from new, so there does seem to be an ongoing charging and drain issue with almost all OS updates since the one it had at launch.

I’m in the same boat; I’ve had the AW Series 7 for only one week now.

The Belkin Boost Charge Pro Portable (which I bought from the Apple Store) worked great for the first two days, until I updated watchOS to 8.5.

Fast-charging was a major factor in my choosing Series 7 over the SE; my use requirement for the Apple Watch is pretty much 24/7, so I needed to be able to do quick charge-ups a couple of times a day. For the first two days using the watch, I could do this easily. Since watchOS 8.5, not so much.

I’m sure that disabling fast-charge (on at least some chargers) in the OS update was done in error, but from what I’ve found online, it’s at least the third time that Apple have done this (8.1.1, 8.3, and now 8.5, apparently).

I can understand making a mistake, but to keep making the same mistake repeatedly really shakes user confidence.

The fast-charging design Belkin have deployed in these chargers is surely made to Apple’s specification, so I am really struggling to understand how this problem has arisen in the first place, let alone several times now.

Apple, could we please get some sort of commitment to stop breaking fast-charging with future OS updates? That would really mean a lot to many of us Apple Watch S7 owners, I am quite sure.
