Apple Watch 7 slow charging with Belkin BoostCharge PRO after 8.5

Hi,

After updating the Apple Watch 7 to WhatchOS 8.5 it stopped fast charging with Belkin BoostCharge PRO. It used to charge very fast and now is very very very slow (about 5% in one hour). Any idea of how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

I can also confirm, the boost pro stopped charging my Series 7 altogether after updating to watchOS 8.5. It’ll charge normally on Apple chargers, but the Belkin fast charger recently released no longer works. Considering the absolute desolate landscape that third party fast charging for Series 7 is currently, how quickly Apple releases a fix for this is critical for Belkin and others to keep customer trust.

I am so disappointed, the 8.5.1 update did *NOT* resolve the charging issue. How many times does Apple have to break charging with the watch? I could go on about this, because it speaks to a larger issue at Apple, but that's not the point of this forum. Apple: Fix third party charging ASAP, you have broken trust far too many times and this cannot continue.

I can confirm the same problem with Belkin fast chargers. I have two BOOST↑CHARGE PRO's and they worked perfectly ever since purchase. Could have sworn the other one still worked so I contacted Belkin, returned the charger and was sent a new one. But the new one did not work either so I checked the other one and realized it also did not work. The stock Apple charger that came with the watch works fine but both Belkins are bricked. Had no clue why but then started seeing articles about this problem. Hope they fix it soon in an update. Belkin is supposedly an authorized fast charge accessory - the only one far as I understand.

8.5 broke my fast charge. It broke my new watch it wouldn't chare with the apple charger either. Just got the new 7 replacement running 8.5 and it charged for 2 days now will not work on my fast charger and will only charge to 15% or 45% Apple needs to fix this. What good is a new watch if I can't charge it to use it? How long before an update?

Not sure it qualifies as a "huge" bug, it would depend on how many people bought a BoostCharge. At this point I would suggest that you, and everyone else, that has a Belkin BoostCharge contact both Belkin AND Apple and report the problem. And if Apple asks your help by running a profile on your Watch for testing volunteer for it.

Considering Apple sell it on their site directly (at a not-cheap price), I would be surprised if they don't pull their finger out on this one. Shame it didn't make the last bug fix, but perhaps its a non-trivial issue.

I'm sure Apple are already aware. It has been reported by numerous tech news sites.

I would guess that it affects every Apple Watch S7 with 8.5.1. So I don't think Apple will have a problem regenerating the issue.

Solving the issue is up to Apple and Belkin. However as a work around until a fix to WatchOS is available try the following;

Place watch on Belkin Charger, wait a few seconds till it switches to charge mode (Green Watch Face)

Remove it from charger , wait a second till it flips to normal watch mode then replace on charger.

I've been doing this for awhile (weeks) and it works consistently to allow fast charging on a Series 7 watch , and Belkin Fast (Watch) Chargers. Belkin has also mentioned this recently on their support Twitter.

I would not call those steps "trouble shooting" but workarounds and they only mitigate the "issue" they don't resolve it.
The "Re-Seat" method is the easiest and works consistently, the other two don't work all the time in my experience.

i will be trying the reseat option, as its the only option that will work for me on my apple watch charger, dont have belkin but the original
