owc mercury elite pro mini not showing up on desktop

I bought a owc mercury elite pro mini and reformated it on new Imac MI running 11.6. it has a USB TYPE -C cable with tethered type-A adapter. I plugged the type -A adapter into my late 2009 intel imac 2.0 port but it doesn't show up. I was going to use it for time machine and transferred items to the new imac if the MA program (migration Assistant) gave me trouble.

I have the 2009 imac back up on WD external HD (rebootable using super duper) on a 2.0 external drive but I can't attached it into the imac MI.

Any ideas why the drive don't show up even when using disc utility?.

Hello Has55,

What format did you use on the OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini? Compatible formats can be found here: File system formats available in Disk Utility on Mac

Disk Utility on Mac supports several file system formats:

Apple File System (APFS): The file system used by macOS 10.13 or later.

Mac OS Extended: The file system used by macOS 10.12 or earlier.

MS-DOS (FAT) and ExFAT: File systems that are compatible with Windows.

If you open up System Information from Applications > Utilities, then select on USB on the sidebar, does the external drive show up as connected to the Mac? Does the external drive appear or sound powered on when connected?

Hoping to hear back, take care.
