Merging cells mid table in Numbers

In the middle of a table I wish to put a 'brea' a row that is a explanation of the calculations below it. I want to Merge all the cells from all columns. But it seems that because the first two columns are header columns, the Merge function is greyed out.

How do I go about resolving this . I am guessing that there is some way to ' reset ' a group of select cells to default / base no formatting 'format' in order to allow me to merge these cells?

I can't find it

Help appreciated.

Thanks

It does not appear that you need the first two columns to be header columns. Make them regular columns then you can merge the columns as you wish. With the table selected, look at the sidebar (the thing with the settings on the right side of the window) and click on the Table tab. Change the number of header columns to zero. You may have to reformat the cell background of the two columns to turn them gray again. You can use Copy Style and Paste Style to get the style from a cell in the header row.

Have you considered putting the explanation or explanations in a comment or comments (click a cell and from the menu choose Insert > Comment, or type shift-command-k)?

Comments are a good place to put information like this. Merging cells is not always a good idea because it can produce unexpected results in calculations.

I had not considered or heard about that fucnti0n, but on tyron it, it is not what I'd want.

I want to be able to have them print out.

I suppose the other way would be to create multiple tables on each sheet, each with a header.

If you see the screen shot you will see what I mean.

There are no complicated calculations, just a few SUM and percentage divisions showing the split of my deceased partners estate between her 3 children and myself.

Putting an explanation between each 'stage' and the calculations below each explanation...
