Which SSD do i need?

I used a Samsung Evo 500 but Crucial MX500 is good too. You want an SSD with built in cache.

I would go with 500gb or larger for MacOS.

Also don’t forget to enable “trim support” after you install the SSD. Very important.

I installed the Samsung Evo 500 in my MB Pro mid-2012 about 7 years ago. And it still works great.

Also It it good to have 8gb of ram at least. 16gb is best but not needed with an SSD.

I would replace the battery to while you have the MB Pro open.

on the mid -2012 MBP the SATA cable is a known weal link and is recommended to install a new SATA cable at the same time.

Avoid the Crucial BX500 series as it is a low end budget economy model which can be as slow as a hard drive and tends to overheat. The MX500 series is a good choice.

If you have the Retina model, then the laptop uses a proprietary Apple SSD connector so an OWC Aura SSD is your simplest option.

Many consumer level SSDs today are low end models that don't perform very well. Samsung EVO SSDs historically tend to have the most compatibility issues (at least the older models). I would avoid the QVO Samsung series.
