Just bought an Apple Watch about a week ago and the battery charge only lasts about twenty six (26) +/-hours is this normal or will the charge increase after so many charges?

The 18 hour rating is not necessary locked in stone, nor what you should expect. It is rated based on predefined usage criteria as detailed in the link Rudegar provided above.

not too happy with a promise of only 18 hours but at least here the little man has one over the big corporation for a change.
