Does Apple Mail on MacOS Monterey 12.2.1 support OAUTH2 which is a version of MFA (Multifactor Authentication)?

Hello hogdriver,

If you're looking to add an exchange account to the Mail app, you can do so with these steps:

Open Mail, and then do one of the following:

If you've never used Mail to set up an email account, the Welcome to Mail page opens. Go to step 2.If you've used Mail to create email accounts, select Mail > Add Account.Select Exchange > Continue.Enter the name, email address and password for your Exchange account > Sign In.Choose the Mac apps you want to use with this account. Available choices are MailContactsCalendarReminders, and Notes.Click Done.Set up email in Mac OS X Mail

Cheers!

Hey there, hogdriver!

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

While you can not set up an app specific password for your Apple apps, you can create an app specific password for third-party apps. You can also set up two factor for your Apple ID.

Kindest regards.

Thank you for your reply.

So my real question has nothing to do with app specific passwords. What I really want to know is, how do I access MS Exchange email server via MFA on Apple Mail? The Apple Mail app is already open on my iMac on my local account. So I am past the password authentication for the local machine. I want to know how other email clients can use MFA but Apple Mail is not advanced enough to allow MFA? MFA is becoming the defacto standard for account protection. So why not Apple?

If double authentication becomes standard and all native Apple apps only use single authentication, then wouldn't Apple apps become obsolescent? Also, I believe iOS uses some MFA enabled apps in their infrastructure.

If not, what third-party email client, that utilizes MFA, would you recommend?

Thanks
