My computer is suddenly not finding sites dns issue?

Most users are allowing the DHCP information to be sent to their Router from their Information Service Provider (ISP) upstream Router. Those numbers can be inspected with the Router admin software.

On a Mac, if there is NOTHING set as the Mac's DNS, the ones your Router provides with DHCP will be used if you connect using DHCP. if you use a Manual IP address, or enter DNS numbers directly on your Mac, what you entered will take precedence.

There are also several generally available free DNS services available. you can enter these number instead, but the provider may be watching you. Common ones are

google DNS:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

and OpenDNS:

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Verify your Domain:

Either the domain is down for the moment, or the domain you are trying to access does not exist. So, try it in a few. Data traffic is probably pretty high, particularly for sites that would have been hardest hit.

If you can access this site, obviously, you are connected to then Internet.

Use a Different Device:

Use another computer(i.e. friend's or family member's), in the meantime.

Here is a Domain Name Server "litmus test"

launch a browser and enter :

1.1.1.1 and press return

if you get the CloudFlare splash page, and

Cloudflare.com

gets you nothing, you have a Domain Name Server (DNS) issue.
