Cloud Music Library stuck updating

When I try to add music to my Cloud Music Library from my Mac (macOS 12.2.1), I get "Updating Cloud Music Library" with a continuously spinning wheel at the bottom of my Apple Music window, and the activity window just shows one row that says "Loading Cloud Music Library..." and a second that says "Cloud Music Library: Updating Cloud Music Library", with a spinning black wheel next to the second row. This persists for hours/days with no resolution. I have at least one album on my computer that is not in the Apple Music library (Brenn Hill, Trail Through Yesterday), so I don't know if that is what's causing the issues, otherwise, I don't have any ideas on how to go about fixing this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Not to worry!

Since you have the error message about "Gathering information", ;et's check out these steps in this article If your songs are grayed out. Specifically:

If it's taking a long time to upload your music library
If most of your music was imported from sources other than Apple Music, or you have a large music library, it might take more time for your music library to upload.
Make sure that your computer is authorized so any music that you previously purchased from the iTunes Store can be uploaded. Then follow these steps:
Connect your Mac or PC to the internet.
Open the Apple Music app or iTunes.
On your Mac, make sure that Sync Library is turned on. On your PC, make sure that iCloud Music Library is turned on.
Keep the Apple Music app or iTunes open until your music library is finished uploading.
If a song is still grayed out after your music library is uploaded, import a new copy of the song into your music library. Then in the Apple Music app or iTunes, go to the menu bar and choose File > Library > Update Cloud Library.

I've tried restarting the computer before. I actually just did it again after updating to macOS 12.3, and I decided to reset the modem and router, just to make sure I'm covering my bases. It's now been stuck on "Gathering information about your library" with the wheel stuck part way and no longer spinning for the past 15 minutes... I'm going backwards... 😫😖

Hey tktaylor,

When you have an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription with Sync Library enabled, music that you add to your Mac will automatically be either matched or uploaded to your iCloud Music Library. It sounds like your Mac may be stuck uploading the Brenn Hill song.

Try this:

  • Click the X to stop the update in your screenshot.
  • Restart your Mac and your Wi-Fi network equipment, and ensure you have a strong Wi-Fi connection.
  • Try syncing again.
  • If you’re still stalled, disable Sync Library for 2-3 minutes and enable again.

These steps will ensure that you have the best connection possible and refresh the connection to your iCloud Music Library.

This is also a great resource for assistance with Apple Music on your Mac.
