image capture doesnt import ALL

So Im using an M1 iMac and and iphone 12pro max on the latest ios. I have 2 older macs I have tried this on as well. My iphone states I have 30k pics. I plug it into my mac open image capture it says I have 36k, weird.

I wait for photos etc to load then click import all. It starts the import an hour later the import finishes 23k pictures...not all 30k or 36k that image capture states I have. I delete the folder with the imported pictures I try again the number of imported pictures is even lower with the next import I try it a few more times and each import stays between 12-16k each time.

I do not understand what is happening or why all of my pictures aren't importing but I honestly need to clear them off my phone because I am out of space there is just no way to get them ALL off my phone and onto my mac so I can put them on an external drive for safe keeping.

Any ideas on what I can do or another program for importing to mac? I do not want to use the photos app I need these files on a drive.
