No Video Playback Safari

I have recently updated to iOS 15.4 on my iPhone 7. However, in doing so, Safari no longer allows for video playback. The video's audio would play but no visual, only a black screen. This problem happens in both private and non-private browsing.

Previously when this problem had occurred, I had disabled the "GPU Process: Media" option from the Experimental WebKit Features. However, that option is no longer available. I did a "Reset" on all my settings; the problem persisted. I tried downloading a different browser, but the same problem. Video playback works in applications correctly.

Therefore, the problem is how iOS 15.4 and/or iPhone 7 handles browser video playbacks that causes a black screen. Is there anything I can do to rectify such an issue?

I do not think I have any additional software that would have caused this problem. Video playback in the browser was working excellently until the iOS 15.4 update. Nothing additional software was added before the problem was recognised.

Hi there Nicolas,

Does this tend to happen when you view videos on a specific website, or does it happen with multiple websites? Although you tested with another browser, try clearing your history and website data from Safari, then test it out. This will help if there is something within your browsing history that is causing this behavior. Clear the history and cookies from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > Safari, and tap Clear History and Website Data.

Reply if the issue persists.

Nicolas,

You mentioned that you restarted your device. Did you also close the Safari app out completely? To do so, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the middle on the Home Screen. Swipe left or right to find Safari and swipe up on the preview to close it out completely. This can help refresh the app. Once that's complete, you can try to play the videos again.

Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

Hope that helps!
