OneDrive Sync Issues in Monterey

Hello,

I'm having an issue in a work environment where OneDrive is giving a sync error when I try to sign in to the application. Essentially, this seems to happen to new and existing users who get a new computer that starts on MacOS 12.2 or later. OneDrive opens, lets me log in, and then when I get to the point where I choose the folder path, I get an error that says "Sorry, we can't add your "folder location" folder right now. Please try again."

This doesn't make sense, because it seems like anyone who has started on 12.1 or earlier can use OneDrive perfectly fine and syncing works. Even if I update them to later versions, OneDrive continues to work. I have tested this on multiple devices and have found that my own account (which works on my work computer that I installed OneDrive on 12.1) is functional, but when I set up a new computer that same account does not work on the new machine. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Let me know if I need to clarify anything!

I fixed my issue. I had previously used the OneDrive app from the Apple App Store (along with Outlook, Word, Excel). The issue started when I decided to update/download the Office 365 apps (including OneDrive) from the Microsoft site. This overwrote the apps from the App Store. After trying everything, I decided to reinstall the OneDrive app from the App Store. Bingo! Everything immediately worked again.

I had a problem that wasn't quite the same in the detail as Jordan Kellers posting but the essence was the same - OneDrive would not work on my M1 Mac Mini running macOS Monterey running version 12.3.1.

After several abortive attempts I reset OneDrive by right-clicking the OneDrive app, then going to Contents/Open Package Contents/Resources and double-clicking the ResetOneDriveApp.command. I then opened the OneDrive app and followed the instructions, confirming the location of the OneDrive folder on my machine. All seems to be well now.

I ran into the same error message but with a different root cause. I had the App Store version installed at first and then replaced it with the download version from the O365 page.

These steps worked for me (from this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/fix-onedrive-sync-problems-on-a-mac-af3012d7-13ec-4ac9-bbb1-ebcd2a0cd756).

"A different version of the OneDrive app is already connected to this account" error in macOS

ISSUE

This error will appear if you have two versions of OneDrive installed.

WORKAROUND

We do not support running both standalone and App Store versions of OneDrive side by side.

If you want to switch between them, you must first remove the previous installation by running the Reset script inside of the app bundle:

  1. Right-click or CTRL-click the OneDrive app
  2. Select Show package contents then Contents/resources/reset*.command
  3. Install the latest OneDrive for macOS from your preferred source.

Delete the old OneDrive folders and then log into OneDrive.

Hello Jkeller2504,

We've found a great resource that should help you out : Fix OneDrive sync problems on a Mac. You'd want to review it and to check specifically for the error.

Start here:

1.Make sure you're syncing the right folders"

2."When you first set up OneDrive, click Choose folders to sync. If you didn't do this when you set up OneDrive, you can do it in Preferences."

This is found in the information we've provided. As a suggestion, you'd want to continue on with this guide to get this resolved.

Kind regards.

I'm having the same problem with MacOS Monterey. OneDrive works on my Catalina system and my iOS systems. It stopped working on my Monterey system yesterday and I haven't been able to get it to work, again. I've tried several troubleshooting procedures, including the one offered by Jkeller2504, above and:

None have worked, yet.

I'm having the same issue where it says it can't add the folder right now. I've tried checking the OneDrive settings as some older posts suggest. I also tried the ResetOneDriveApp which also didn't work. The only thing that's new is that I re-installed the Office apps today from the Office package download to ensure I had the latest versions and the Office app tool to keep apps updated. Or maybe it was Monterey 12.4 which I installed late last week. Actually now that I think about it, it appears to be tied to that.

I am having the same issue where it says it can't add the folder right now. I have a new mac and migrated all to it with a hope that all will work... :(

I've tried checking the OneDrive settings as some older posts suggest with no avail. It works when I put another location on my mac hard drive, but this is not helpful, as I have some files on my local drive and some on OneDrive (which by the way deleted my local files), so I really need to be able to sync one drive with my designated local OneDrive folder. Please help. Thanks
